Prosedur Text

 A. Purpose of Procedure text

The purpose of procedure text is to show how something is made/used/done through a sequence of steps. If interpreted in Indonesian, the purpose of procedure text is to explain how something is made, done or used through sequential steps.

In other words, procedure text is used to describe one by one how something can be made or achieved. Through procedure text, it will be easier for someone to understand and read instructions on how to do something in the right order.

B. Structure of Procedure Text

The structure of procedure text consists of three parts. What are the parts of the structure of procedure text? There are goals, materials, and steps.

Goal: is a procedure text structure that explains the purpose or objective.

Materials: is a procedure text structure that describes tools and materials needed.

Step : The next procedure text structure is steps, which consist of steps or instructions in making or doing something.

C. Procedure Text Language Rules

After knowing the structure contained in the procedure text, now let's learn about the language rules.

 1. Using the Simple Present Tense

Procedure text must be written using Simple Present Tense. This is because in procedure text there are command sentences regarding how to make or do something.

 2. Using Command Sentences (Imperative Sentences)

What are command sentences or imperative sentences in procedure text? Imperative sentence always begins with verb 1 of action verb or verbs that involve physical activity. So, we don't need to use the Subject at the beginning of the sentence.

Example: Add 3 onions and mix it well. This sentence begins with verb 1, add. There is no subject at the beginning of the sentence.

3. Using Conjunctions  (Connectives)

Conjunctions (connectives) are used in a procedure text to connect the steps in it so that the list of instructions made is coherent and easy to understand.

Example: Firstly, secondly, then, after that, next and finally.

 4. Using adverbs (adverb)

Adverb (adverb) is used to provide information about time. There are 2 types of adverbs or adverbs used in procedure text, namely:

Adverb of time or an adverb of time indicating how long we have to do something. Example: in 10 minutes, for 1 hour.

Adverb of manner or description of how to do something. Example: slowly, well, evenly
